The consensus position

Mainstream comparative linguistics holds μέτωπον to be an inner-Greek compound of μετά "between, among" and ὤψ "eye, face", the latter from Proto-Indo-European *h₃ekʷ- "eye, see", cognate with Latin oculus and Sanskrit akṣi. No relationship to Bantu is recognised, the language families being treated as unrelated.
