Mainstream comparative Semitics treats Σιών as a Greek transcription of Hebrew צִיּוֹן, a proper name of uncertain origin, most often connected to the root ṣ-y-y "be dry" (the parched height) or to a word for a rocky ridge, with a real possibility that it is a pre-Israelite Jebusite toponym with no recoverable Semitic etymology. No relationship to Bantu languages is proposed in that literature.
